Resident arrested for misconduct in Piqua duplex fire

UPDATE @ 8:50 p.m.:
A resident of the duplex that caught fire in the 300 block of Camp Street was arrested Saturday morning and booked into the Miami County Jail in Troy.

Robert Shoffner Jr., 33, was charged with misconduct at (the scene of) an emergency.

Details about his alleged behavior that led to his arrest weren’t immediately available.

No one was injured from a fire Saturday morning on Camp Street, according to Assistant Chief Jon Stevens.

Flames and smoke were showing around 9:45 a.m. when crews arrived in the 300 block.

Two families and several pets were evacuated from the duplex, said Stevens. No pets were injured.

The damage estimate is about $20,000 for the structure, plus another couple thousand for the contents.

The cause of the fire that started in the attic is under investigation.
