MIAMI COUNTY — A 56-year-old woman was killed this morning after she apparently fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into a large tree, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
Jill Riffell, who lives near West Milton, crashed around 8:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of McCurdy Road near Troy in Miami County.
Riffell was alone in her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.
She worked for a distributorship called JNC Delivery, hired by Cox Media Group to deliver the Dayton Daily News in Miami County. She was on her delivery route at the time of the crash, according to deputies. Riffell also was a former Cox Media Group employee.
The Dayton Daily News issued a statement, “This is a terrible tragedy, and our hearts and prayers go out to her family.”
The crash remains under investigation.
