The 180th Fighter Wing, based in the Toledo-area, is participating in a test of the Aerospace Control Alert System Wednesday between noon and 2 p.m., a public affairs spokesperson for the wing said in a media alert.

Fighter jets will be flying over the area during the test and will be visible or audible in the Middletown, Dayton, Springfield, and Marysville areas. The test will have fighter jets flying in close proximity to another plane playing the role of a Track of Interest, which is a term used to describe an aircraft that could be a potential threat, the spokesperson said.

Tests like Wednesday’s are considered a routine coordination between the Eastern Air Defense Sector, Federal Aviation Administration, and 180 Fighter Wing, the spokesperson said. The test are also part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s Operation Noble Eagle, which was initiated after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
