Dayton woman identified in fatal pedestrian strike

UPDATE @ 11:32 a.m. 

The woman killed in this crash has been identified as Francis S. Evans, 59, of Dayton, said Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Preliminary cause and manner is blunt force injury to chest and abdomen, and her death has been ruled an accident.

UPDATE @ 6:30 a.m: One woman dead in a pedestrian strike that occurred Tuesday morning in Dayton, according to Dayton police.

Officials located the driver and the vehicle, and the driver is in custody.

The crash happened on Free Pike at N. Gettsyburg Avenue around 5:40 a.m.

Witnesses say the woman was not only hit, but possibly dragged a distance at the intersection they describe as “dangerous”.

UPDATE @ 6:07 a.m: The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office have been requested to the scene of the pedestrian strike on Free Pike at N. Gettsyburg Avenue in Dayton that occurred Tuesday morning. 

We’re still working to learn more details. 

INITIAL REPORT

Crews are responding to a reported pedestrian strike on Free Pike at N. Gettysburg Avenue in Dayton.

The incident was reported around 5:40 a.m., per initial reports.

A few streets are blocked off as a result of the strike: W. Siebenthaler Avenue to N. Gettsyburg Ave, N. Gettysburg Avenue to Wentworth Ave and Salem Ave to Wentworth Ave.
