Train hits car stuck on tracks in West Carrollton after driver misunderstands GPS directions

WEST CARROLLTON — UPDATE @ 7:35 p.m.:

Alex Road will be closed at Kimberly Lane in West Carrollton until at least 10 p.m. after a Norfolk Southern train struck an unoccupied car stuck on railroad tracks.

West Carrollton police Sgt. Alex Flynn said a woman was following GPS directions very literally when she “misunderstood the GPS instructions, wound up on the tracks. The vehicle was immobilized on the tracks, she wasn’t able to get it off herself.”

The woman, who was the lone occupant, was able to get out of her car safely.

Before police could alert Norfolk Southern, there happened to be a train in the area that collided with the vehicle. The car was pushed about 50 yards, Flynn said.

“She was obviously upset because she witnessed her vehicle get hit but there’s no physical harm done to her,” Flynn said.
