New Habitat for Humanity activity center in Troy helps volunteers, nonprofits

Habitat for Humanity in Miami and Shelby counties is turning an empty storeroom into a new activity center.

The new Habitat Activity Center on East Race Street in Troy will be used to train volunteers in safe use of power tools and for nonprofits to do wood-related projects.

“Other projects being considered to build here would be wheelchair ramps, and likely, dog houses built here to be sold at the Habitat Restore in Troy,” said Bill Horstman, Habitat for Humanity executive director.

The most recent projects include the home that was completed and dedicated to the family of four in Sidney, and building 70 flower boxes as appreciation gifts for volunteers of Partners In Hope in Miami County.
