Close to 600 Ohio customers of United Healthcare Medicare plans may have had their personal information fall into the wrong hands.  United Healthcare is contacting the affected customers by mail of the security breach.  A hard drive containing members’ names, Social Security numbers and other data had been sent to a repair facility by Futurity First Insurance Group, a broker of United Healthcare insurance products.  The drive was stolen toward the end of June, but the vendor didn’t tell Futurity First until the middle of August and Futurity First didn’t tell United Healthcare until the middle of September.  United Healthcare is now offering free identity protection for a year to its customers whose data was on the drive.
