Around 10 a.m., a band of showers and storms started to move through the Dayton-area. A university spokesperson said due to the lightning, move-in activities stopped until the weather passed.

Move-in day was allowed to resume around 10:45 a.m., university officials said.

Weather conditions Friday and Saturday are expected to be unfavorable for students and parents, with rounds of rain expected both days.

“Even though the chance for rain is decreasing Saturday, I would still make sure you have a tarp – or even just a rain jacket for yourself, something ready to be used,” Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Jesse Maag said.

Early Friday morning, some parents and students of one of UD’s largest incoming freshman classes started lining up outside the dorm buildings.

“It’s chaotic, but exciting,” parent Sherry Alford from Lexington, Kentucky told News Center 7’s Sean Cudahy.
