MIAMI VALLEY — Mosquito season is upon us in the Miami Valley and with warmer and wet days ahead the number may begin to increase.
Standing water is an ideal mosquito breeding ground. However, it doesn’t have to be a large area of standing water. If you have a back yard where you’ve had a lot of standing water and high grass and weeds, you may have an area with mosquitoes. Eliminating standing water can help keep mosquitoes away, bug spray with DEET is essential.
Protection from mosquito bites also means protection from diseases, such as West Nile virus. The chance of finding the disease will only become greater as more mosquito generations hatch and the population grows.
That means bug spray is a must, especially at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are more prevalent.
