More than 1,000 attend Hillary Clinton event

Hillary Rodham Clinton arrived at Books & Co. at The Greene at 6:55 p.m. Friday to applause from hundreds of supporters who have lined up for her book signing.

Clinton was in town to sign copies of her new memoir, "Hard Choices." More than 1,000 people made it through the line during the two-hour event.

Dayton was the second stop of the day and the sixth this week in Clinton's national book tour. The former first lady has been dashing across the country since June 9 when she kicked off the three-week promotional tour.

The book, which retails for $35, covers her time as the 67th secretary of state when she visited 112 countries, logged nearly one million miles and dealt with complex issues such as threats from Iran and North Korea, the deadly attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, and the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

Eva Kirk of Dayton turned out before 5 p.m. for Clinton's event and waved a "Ready for Hillary" poster on the street corner.

"I'm going to get her book autograph. I've been a big supporter of hers for a long time. I think she is incredibly smart and I just think she'd do a great job as president."

First and second in line, Patti Nichols and Fran Sipple of Indian Lake got up at the crack of dawn for their coveted spots. Both said they were eager to see Clinton, especially since this is her first public appearance in Ohio since her failed 2008 primary campaign.

Steven Gullet of Franklin said he, too, couldn't miss the opportunity to meet Clinton, whom he called the "future president.

"I think she really sees what the issues are with the country," he said. "I think she'll have a great plan to fix it. ... I think she's the right person to lead us."
