Victim ID’d in deadly Dayton shooting

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 4:35 p.m.

The homicide victim was identified as 52-year-old Donald Garrett of the 2800 block of Millicent Avenue in Dayton.

An autopsy will be completed Friday, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

A person is dead following a reported shooting on Millicent Avenue Thursday morning.

Homicide detectives and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene around 11:10 a.m. in the 2800 block of Millicent.

A woman called 911 and said she heard a shooting while she was inside her home nearby.

“Somebody just shot someone,” the woman told 911 operators.  “It was like four times.”

Police have not released any details about the incident, however a Dayton police report lists the crime as a murder.

The woman told dispatchers neighbors from around the area were gathering at the scene.

“There’s all the neighbors around him trying to talk to him,” the woman said.  “He ain’t saying nothing.”

Additional details, including the victim’s identity and any information on a potential shooter, were not immediately available.
