Medical helicopter requested after crash involving car, dump truck in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Fire crews rescued one person trapped inside a car after a crash involving a dump truck on North Limestone Street in Springfield late Monday morning, according to initial reports.

Police and fire crews were called out to a report of a crash with a person trapped on North Limestone Street near Red Coach Drive around 11:45 a.m.

First fire crews on the scene reported “major damage” to the car on the driver’s side, emergency scanner traffic indicates. The driver was freed from the wreckage and taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center. A CareFlight medical helicopter was requested to meet medics at the hospital to transport the victim to another hospital.

The condition of those involved in the crash were not immediately know.
