Infant safe after rollover crash that critically injures driver

JEFFERSON TWP., Montgomery County — UPDATE @ 4:30 p.m.

A 23-year-old woman was critically injured after she was ejected 15 feet from her SUV that crashed and landed in a farm field late this morning.

A 6-month-old child was properly restrained and was found in a car seat in the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe after the crash reported around 11:10 a.m. in the area of Dayton-Farmersville Road and Lutheran Church Road. The infant was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary investigation shows the driver, whose name was not released, was headed east on Dayton-Farmersville Road from the area of Lutheran Church Road when the right side of the SUV left the paved roadway. The driver attempted to steer the vehicle back on to the asphalt and overcorrected, losing control. The SUV rotated 180 degrees as it left the right side of the road, traveling down an embankment into a farm field. The vehicle then became airborne and rolled several times before coming to rest on its side, deputies said.

The driver was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight with life-threatening injuries.

Officials reported Dayton-Farmersville Road was to remain closed until around 3 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Unit.

FIRST REPORT

A crash reportedly involving an SUV has been reported in the area of Dayton-Farmersville and South Lutheran Church roads this morning.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene around 11:20 a.m., according to initial reports.
