UPDATE: SUV crashes into Springfield building, causing natural gas leak; 1 hospitalized

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 12:20 p.m.:

The driver of an SUV was taken to an area hospital after they crashed into a Springfield building, causing a natural gas leak.

The condition of the driver was not immediately known.

The SUV hit a part of a building in the 1400 block of West First Street where natural gas meters are fed into the structure. Initial reports indicate crews were able to contain the natural gas leak.

Details about the crash were not released by investigators on the scene.


FIRST REPORT

A medical helicopter is being requested to transport a victim to the hospital from a crash on West First Street this morning.

The crash was reported around 10:30 a.m. and initial emergency dispatch traffic indicated a natural gas leak may have occurred during the crash.

Police and firefighters are at the scene of the crash in the 1400 block.
