Mechanicsburg Middle School student accused of issuing threats

A Mechanicsburg Middle School student is to be in court Thursday on a delinquency charge accusing the student of making a threat at the school Wednesday.

The juvenile was taken into custody about 3:15 p.m. and detained, police Lt. David Patrick said Wednesday night.

He declined to divulge details about the nature of the threat, but said, "there is no risk to any students or staff at the school."

In an email exempted village schools Superintendent Danielle Prohaska sent to parents and guardians tonight, she said the administrative team received information regarding the threat after school. Police, the school resource officer and district administration responded immediately and conducted a thorough investigation.

At no time were students or staff at risk, Prohaska said in the letter.

She commended the students and staff members who made the administrative team aware of the potential threat.

"When we are provided with information, it allows us to initiate our safety protocol swiftly and successfully," she said.

"We take all threats made against student safety seriously until proven otherwise. I continue to ask for your help in reinforcing the importance of speaking up and speaking out."
