Man with BB gun, knife arrested at Dayton elementary school

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 3:53 p.m.:

A man was sleeping with a knife and BB gun outside a Dayton elementary school Thursday morning, according to a 911 caller

“There’s a guy in front of our elementary school sleeping,” the caller told a dispatcher. “He’s sleeping, but I can see a gun.”

The caller said the man, later identified as 22-year-old Michael Osburn, was crouched in the fetal position by Ruskin Elementary School’s front entrance. A gun was reportedly laying behind him.

The caller also noted a bike near Osburn.

“He must have been here all night,” the caller said.

Police later determined that the firearm was a BB gun.

INITIAL REPORT:

A 22-year-old man with a BB gun and knife at a Dayton elementary school was taken into custody Thursday morning.

Officers were dispatched to Ruskin Elementary School around 6 a.m. on a suspicious person complaint, according to a police report.

Michael B. Osburn was arrested on suspicion of carrying concealed weapons, illegal weapons/ordnances on school property and possession of drugs.

No formal charges have been filed.

Osburn had a BB gun that was “indistinguishable from a firearm,” according to the report, as well as a knife and drugs.

It was not clear whether Osburn was inside or outside the school when he was arrested.
