A vehicle and two men were described leaving the scene by witnesses and a vehicle with the same description was later spotted by Miamisburg Police. The vehicle fled when an officer activated their cruiser lights and attempted to stop them.

During the pursuit, Hatfield was seen throwing evidence out of the window, including the disassembled murder weapon.

Hatfield was previously indicted in relation to this incident by the Montgomery County Grand Jury for two counts of tampering with evidence and one count of having weapons while under disability.
