Man crashes into pole escaping from armed robbery, police say

DAYTON — A man crashed his vehicle into a pole while reportedly escaping an attempted armed robbery on North Main Street early Sunday morning, police say.

Around 2:25 a.m., the man stopped at the intersection of North Main Street and West Riverview Avenue when a white, tinted Chevy Impala with four male suspects pulled up next to him, according to a Dayton police report.

The driver of the Impala allegedly told the man to pull over; he did not. In response, the driver reportedly pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at him, read the report.

In fear, the man drove through the intersection, lost control and struck a RTA pole, police say. He left his vehicle, and called police.

It is unknown which direction the suspects fled.
