Looking to see the Bengals, Chiefs square off in AFC Championship game? How much it’ll cost

MIAMI VALLEY — While many Bengals fans made the trip down to Nashville to see Cincinnati beat the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, making the trip to Kansas City this weekend might be a bigger undertaking.

Courtney and Erik Wirth, of Xenia, and their son Carson were three of the hundreds of Bengals fans in Nissan Stadium when kicker Evan McPherson kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired.

“Our whole section was Bengals fans. We were rowdy before the game, after the game. I think we chanted ‘Who Dey’ from the stands all the way to the parking garage after the game,” Courtney Wirth said.

The Wirth’s said they immediately considered a trip to Kansas City when the Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills, sending the Bengals to Arrowhead Stadium for the AFC Championship game.

“This morning they were close to $500 a ticket,” Courtney Wirth said.

Those seats were in the nosebleed section of the end zone. Ticketmaster showed that prices got much higher for seats in midfield and even higher for the lower bowl, with prices pushing $1,300 per ticket. Some tickets in private club seating were almost $7,000 a piece.

As for airfare, News Center 7 looked and the cheapest round trip from Dayton to Kansas City was $425. On average, round trips ranged from $600 to $800. That does not include prices for hotels, food, rental cars or souvenirs.

Even driving for 10 hours one way might not help much.

“I’m sure Kansas City will be just as fun, I just can’t justify the amount of time it will take,” Erik Wirth said.

The Wirth’s said that the proposed cost to Kansas City might be better spent on season tickets for the Bengals next year.

“I’d love to see Kansas City, but I’d love to see eight games next season,” Erik Wirth said.

If you cannot make it to Kansas City for the AFC Championship game, you can watch it Sunday at 3 p.m. on WHIO-TV.
