Long-time Bradford Fire Chief, clerk of courts, dies at 83

BRADFORD — Jan Mottinger, a long-time fire chief of the Bradford Fire and Rescue and clerk of courts for Miami County, died on Monday at the age of 83.

Mottinger also served as Mayor of Bradford from 1968 to 1976.

In 2019, Mottinger was honored as the oldest active firefighter in Ohio, having been on the Bradford Fire Department and Rescue since 1965.

Since graduating from Bradford High School in 1956, Mottinger had served the community of Bradford, the counties of Miami and Darke, the State of Ohio, and his country in the U.S. Army.

His wife of 61 years, Carol Ann, passed away June 5, 2021.

Mottinger’s funeral will be Friday morning, June 18, at 11:00 am in the Bradford High School gymnasium. Calling hours in the gym will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
