DAYTON — Representatives with the Islamic Center of Dayton said its members are disgusted by the recent attacks in Paris.
According to the organization, which consists of about 300 local families, they do not consider the terrorists that carried out the attacks in Paris Muslims. They instead call the group an ‘extremist cult’.
“An Islamic terrorist is an oxymoron,” said Sherherazadh Ishaq, a member of the Islamic Center of Dayton. “You cannot be a Muslim and be a terrorist at the same time. I feel it’s really, really important for people to know that.”
Ishaq said the center has not personally felt a lot of direct backlash, but following the attacks there have been many uncomfortable conversations, especially for Muslims who choose to wear a head scarf since they’re immediately identifiable.
