DAYTON — A local bride and groom recently got married and decided they wanted to give back to a local organization instead of getting wedding gifts.

Hannah Blanke and Matt Shellabarger had a Christmas-themed wedding. Instead of having a table for guests to bring gifts, they decided to have a gift tree and have guests bring toys that would be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.
Blanke and Shellabarger both had past family experiences at Dayton Children’s Hospital. They knew how things worked at the Ronald McDonald House in Dayton and decided they wanted to help the kids by giving them toys.

Blanke said, “I didn’t know how many people would do it and I didn’t realize our friends and family were completely behind us and were like, ‘yup, here you go, hat it all.’”
RMHC Dayton serves families of sick and injured children. The Ronald McDonald House on Valley Street provides a place for families to stay overnight with all meals and activities provided. All RMHC Dayton services are provided at no cost to the families.
The Ronald McDonald House serves more than 3,200 families each year.
