Kettering police ask for help identifying reported porch pirate

KETTERING — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a “porch pirate” who reportedly took a duffel bag off a Kettering porch.

Investigators said Thursday afternoon that they discovered the vehicle in the video is a stolen car. Police are now focusing their efforts on trying to identify the person in the video.

The theft happened on Benfield Drive, according to Kettering police.

In surveillance video posted to the police department’s Facebook page Wednesday, a man is seen approaching the home’s front porch and picking up a large blue duffel bag sitting on the porch.

Porch pirate thief needs identified

We need your help identifying a porch pirate thief. The theft happened on Benfield betweeen 7:20 am - 7:23 am. Take a look at the video and if you can ID the suspect or if you can ID the car.

The man then takes the bag and puts it in an SUV parked in front of the home and drives off.

Police posted a second surveillance video at a different home Thursday morning that shows what appears to be the same man leaving the same vehicle and ringing the doorbell at the home. He briefly picks up a package on the porch, but then puts it down and goes back to the SUV.
