Jamestown man falls from boat, drowns in Tennessee lake

A Greene County, Ohio, man drowned Saturday night in a Tennessee lake after falling from a boat.

Richard Curry, 52, of Jamestown, fell from a pontoon boat as he tired to step onto a fuel dock at Norris Lake, Jeff Roberson of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency told news outlets.

Curry reportedly removed his life jacket just before attempting to step onto the fueling dock and fell into the water between the pontoon and the dock and didn’t resurface, CBS affiliate WVLT-TV in Knoxville reported.

A bass boat was involved in a minor accident inside a “no wake” zone just beforehand at 7:54 p.m. and both boats went to a fuel dock at Shanghai Marina.

Curry reportedly removed his life jacket just before attempting to step onto the fueling dock and fell into the water between the pontoon and the dock and didn’t resurface, CBS affiliate WVLT-TV in Knoxville reported.

The Campbell County Rescue Squad recovered Curry’s body within 40 minutes around 8:30 p.m. in about 64 feet of water.

The incident remains under investigation.
