Burned food causes Springfield apartment to fill with smoke

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 3:41 p.m.:

Burnt food caused a Springfield apartment to fill with smoke according to Springfield Fire Division.

Residents of the South Burnett Road complex were evacuated for approximately 15 minutes before they were let back inside.

INITIAL REPORT:

Fire investigators are working to find the source of a South Burnett Road fire that caused an apartment to fill up with smoke.

Firefighters were dispatched to Cole Manor apartment complex around 1:45 p.m. after a woman reported a fire in her bathroom.

The complex was briefly evacuated, but all tenants were let back.

The apartment was on sixth floor of the nine-story complex.

The source and cause are still under investigation.
