Two ERVs left Cincinnati Tuesday afternoon, with the third departing from Troy.

A fourth ERV will leave Dayton Wednesday.

Twenty local Red Cross volunteers have been assigned to hurricane response, but the number is expected to grow as Florence nears landfall, according to the release.

“As a frame of reference, during last hurricane season, the Greater Cincinnati-Dayton region deployed 155 Red Cross workers for hurricane response,” said Stephanie Byrd, Greater Cincinnati-Dayton Regional CEO. “Should conditions warrant, we anticipate an equally robust effort this season as our area volunteers and staff are extremely dedicated to carrying out the Red Cross mission here locally and throughout the country.”

More than 700 disaster workers nationally are heading to the East Coast to help.

The Red Cross is preparing to help provide shelter for tens of thousands of people who could be displaced by the storm, according to the release.

The organization urged anyone in Florence’s path to obey evacuation orders.

Anyone interested in helping the Red Cross should visit, call 1-800-REDCROSS or text FLORENCE to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Donors can designate their donation to Florence relief efforts by choosing that option online or when calling. Those mailing a check should write the name of the disaster on the memo line of the check. The Red Cross also recommends completing and mailing a donation form on with the check.
