Huber Heights family displaced by house fire

UPDATE @ 4:15 p.m. Sept. 8:

The Huber Heights Fire Department has determined the cause of the fire was accidental, and may have been electrical. The damage to the home has been assessed at $25,000 to the structure, and $10-15,000 in contents. There were no working smoke detectors in the home, according to the fire department, and now the house is uninhabitable.

FIRST REPORT

No one was injured in a house fire in the 6000 block of Alter Road on Saturday morning, according to the Battalion Chief of the Huber Heights Fire Division, Kevin Foley.

Foley said that a little after 4 a.m., Huber Heights and Vandalia Fire units were dispatched to the scene to find heavy flames showing from the house and garage area.

The occupants of the house were awoken by the smell of smoke and were able to get out of the house unscathed, said Foley.

The attic took heavy damage in the blaze, according to Battalion Chief Foley.

The family was temporarily displaced.

The damage estimates are not currently available and the incident remains under investigation by the Huber Heights Fire Department
