How will Foundation funds for Dayton shooting victims, survivors be distributed?

The Dayton Foundation has been raising money for the victims of the Oregon District shooting, but questions remain about who will be eligible for help, and how the funds will be disbursed.

The fund has risen to about $845,000, and plans are moving forward to distribute the money that people across the Miami Valley are giving. Foundation officials have said they believe the fund may reach as much as $1.5 million due to the generosity of the community.

Almost 4,000 individual contributions have been made, but how will that money get to the families of the nine people killed and dozens of others injured is still to be determined.

The foundation says they’re getting closer to solidifying the exact protocol for how the funds will be handled.

“Every dollar contributed to the fund will go to the victims and their families most directly impacted by the August 4 shooting,” The Dayton Foundation said in a statement. The foundation is waiving all administration fees.

A volunteer committee made up of “diverse community leadership” will begin meeting next week to determine how the funds will be disbursed. That protocol, once decided, will be made public, according to the statement.
