WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — For the fourth year in a row, Air Force Staff Sgt. Emily Shertzer won the half marathon.
“Every year I come and I think this is my year to make it into the top five and I end up where I need to be,” Shertzer said.
Shertzer said this year the new course made the race more interesting.
“You predict what’s going to come up and maybe even dread it, so now when it’s brand-new, you don’t know what to expect,” she said.
“The pressure is on for next year,” Shertzer said.
This year, Ann Alynak and Juris Silenieks are the marathon winners for women’s and men’s.
Alynak said she felt strong coming into the marathon and enjoyed the new course.
“There was a lot more crowd support,” she said.
Silenieks finished the marathon in 2 hours, 24 minutes. He also said he is planning to run another marathon in seven weeks.
