Greene Co. Public Health campaign: Buckle Up – Every Trip. Every Time.

Greene County Public Health wants to remind people traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday to wear a seat belt.

The Greene County Safe Communities Coalition partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to raise awareness for their ‘Buckle Up--Every Trip. Every Time.’ campaign, according to a release.

“We want everyone getting to their Thanksgiving destination safely, so our goal with the Buckle Up Every Trip. Every Time. seat belt awareness campaign is to save lives,” said Lt. Matt Schmenk, Xenia Post Commander for the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to the NHTSA, proper seat belt use reduces the risk of fatal injury to front seat passengers by 45 percent and the risk of moderate to serious injury by 50 percent, read the release. In 2016, 14,668 people survived crashes because they were buckled.

Wearing a seat belt ensures everyone arrives safely to their Thanksgiving destinations.
