Fire reported at a home in Springfield formerly occupied by hoarder

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield fire crews worked to put out a fire that broke out in a home formerly occupied by a hoarder, Friday evening.

The fire at the home located in the 700 block of West Mullberry Street is now under control after a room in the back of the house caught fire.

The man that previously lived in the home was reportedly a hoarder, but he has not lived at the home for a couple of months crews say.

Springfield Fire Captain Eric Shively said they believe the cause could be arson. However, further investigation is needed to finalize that cause.
