Firefighters were called to the Yorktown Colony Apartments on Darby Road around 7 a.m. and reported smoke coming from a unit. The fire was reported by neighbors that spotted the smoke and called 911, Riverside Fire Chief Dan Stitzel told News Center 7.

A dog in the unit were the fire started was rescued by firefighters. The dog was given water and some oxygen and appears to be doing ok, Stitzel said.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

The fire was located in the kitchen area of the unit, however the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The occupants in the other units in the building will be able to stay in their homes, Stitzel said.

Stitzel said it appears the unit did not have any working smoke detectors.

Additional details were not released. We’ll update this story as new details become available.
