Young children’s clothing near pond prompts Riverside search

UPDATE @ 9:55 p.m. :

Fire crews searched the pond behind a Riverside home after police found young children’s clothes nearby, but didn’t locate anyone in the process.

Battalion Chief Shon Smith of the Riverside Fire Department said the search came after police responded to a suspicious activity complaint and found children’s clothing, apparently for young children of at least two different ages.

After arrival, crews became concerned because of the proximity of the pond to an apartment complex. Smith said they called in Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s dive crew, who searched the pond with divers and a sonar system.

The fire department also contacted the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center in Dayton to see whether there were any reports of missing children, but none were found.

“We’re being overly cautious, making sure that there’s nobody in there,” Smith said.
