Fall colors beginning to emerge in the Miami Valley

MIAMI VALLEY — You may have noticed some of the trees changing color across the Miami Valley recently. This is just the beginning as peak foliage season for southwest Ohio tends to occur mid to late October.

“We are entering prime viewing season as autumn’s spectacular colors come into focus,” said ODNR Fall Color Forester Jamie Regula.

“Now is the perfect time to plan your fall adventure with our state’s beautiful scenic leaves as the backdrop.”

The best places to look for true color would be in our local parks and forests. This is where trees are growing in their natural habitat. Trees growing in residential neighborhoods and in cities may be stressed and changing color too soon.

Trees near bodies of water also tend to change first, ODNR stated.

The trees mostly changing right now include the Black Walnut, Buckeye, Black Locust, and Cottonwood.
