DAYTON — A downtown Dayton street was dedicated in honor of a Dayton Police Department detective who was killed in the line of duty in November 2019.
The Dayton Police Department held a ceremony Thursday morning to dedicate a portion of Monument Avenue in honor of Detective and DEA Task Force Officer Jorge DelRio.
The ceremonial unveiling took place at 10 a.m.
Street signs for ‘Detective Jorge DelRio Way’ will be installed at the corners of Monument Avenue and Patterson Boulevard and Monument Avenue and Main Street, according to a release from the police department.
Detective DelRio died after serving almost 30 years with the Dayton Police Department and spent most of his career as a Task Force Officer for the Drug Enforcement Administration, the release said.
While serving a search warrant at a home on Ruskin Road, Detective DelRio was shot. He died three days later.
Detective DelRio was the 25th Dayton Police Department officer to die in the line of duty.
