The Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Unclaimed Funds is trying to make it easier to return unclaimed money and property to their rightful owners.

The Division of Unclaimed Funds introduced an online portal that allows claimants to upload their verification documents directly to the division website rather than having to mail physical copies into the state.

Ohioans can visit www.MissingMoney.com and enter their names into the search engine to see if they have any unclaimed funds. If there is an account that matches their information, the person is able to fill out a claim form and upload it to the division using the portal.

Aki Hardy, superintendent for the Division of Unclaimed Funds, said Ohioans are able to scan their documents with a scanner from their own home, or even take a picture with their phone, and upload the documents.

Hardy said the best formats to upload digital documents are either a PDF, TIF, PNG, or a JPEG, but the picture must be clear and the documents need to be legible.

“The more efficient we are with our processes, the more claims we have the bandwidth to process,” Hardy said. “That’s what makes this new option great. We can process Ohioans’ claims quicker, which is always the goal, and it will create a better customer experience for our claimants, eliminating an extra layer of paper and mail.”
