Declining COVID testing demand leads to closing of testing sites in 3 local locations

DAYTON — Officials with Premier Health in Dayton said due to significant decline demand for COVID-19 testing, adjustments are being made to several COVID testing sites.

Three drive-through COVID locations closed Friday:

  • Dayton – OnMain COVID testing site – 1229 S. Main Street. (Former Montgomery Co. Fairgrounds. Last day will be Friday, April 8.
  • Middletown – Atrium Medical Center Drive-through COVID testing site – One Medical Center Drive. Last day will be Saturday, April 9.
  • Troy – Upper Valley Medical Center Drive-through testing site – 3130 N. County Road 25A. Last day will be Saturday, April 9.

Nick Lair, Vice President of Lab Services at Premier Health, said the demand at the testing sites have gone down recently.

“It’s been a journey. We opened March 17, 2020, which is two years and 22 days ago. We opened at UD Arena, that day we saw about 350 patients. Overtime we moved on Main [Street] and today we saw two [patients],” Lair said.

He told News Center 7′s James Rider that they started seeing a “dramatic decrease” in cases and demand in last month.

“We all set these sheds up so we can swab maybe 200, 300, 400, 500 patients a day. When you’re swabbing five or nine a day, you don’t need these testing sites,” Lair said.
