DEA: Nearly 400 million deadly doses of Fentanyl seized in 2022

DETROIT — The Drug Enforcement Agency announced they seized over 50 million fentanyl-laced, fake prescription pills in 2022.

This is approximately 379 million potentially deadly doses of fentanyl and more than double the amount seized in 2021, according to a release.

In Michigan, Ohio and Northern Kentucky the DEA seized more than 280,000 fentanyl-laced pills last year and over 600 pounds of fentanyl powder.

Fentanyl is one of the deadliest drug threats facing this country, the DEA said, just two milligrams is considered potentially deadly.

Many fentanyl-laced pills are made to look like real prescription medications such as OxyCotin, Percocet and Xanax.

“These fake pills are readily found on social media, yet no pharmaceutical pill bought on social media should be considered safe. The only safe medications are ones prescribed directly to you by a trusted medical professional and dispensed by a licensed pharmacist.” Administrator Anne Milgram said in a release.
