Dayton Airport loses K-9

One of the three police dogs at the Dayton International Airport has died from cancer.

According to a release Thursday, TSA K-9 Tina worked with partner Officer Philip Ehling, since July 28, 2006. K9 Tina was recently diagnosed with inoperable cancer after battling an intestinal illness.

The DAI established its K9 Unit that year with three police dogs. Each K9 goes through a ten-week training course in Texas at Lackland Air Force Base.

A memorial service is being planned for Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at the Dayton Expo Center on the grounds of the airport.

“K9 Tina will be deeply missed by her Airport family,” says Terrence Slaybaugh, Dayton’s Director of Aviation. “Our Police dogs come to work every day and are very much a part of what it takes to keep the Airport and our passengers safe.”
