Suspect free on bond in chase that ended in multiple-vehicle crash in Dayton

UPDATE @ 4:50 p.m. (April 17):  Benjamin McDonald, the defendant in the March high-speed chase that ended in a multiple-vehicle crash, has been released from jail on an own-recognizance bond, with several conditions.

Under the conditions of his bond, McDonald:

** Must stay in state and Montgomery County;

** He may not acquire, carry or use any firearms or dangerous ordnance;

** If he is suspected of possessing drugs or controlled substances, he must consent to medical tests to determine whether he has violated that condition

** He must stay in contact with his attorney through the end of the case.

McDonald will be returned to jail if he violates any of the conditions of his release, according to the court.

UPDATE @ 4:40 p.m. (April 1):

Speeds reached more than 102 mph in residential areas of Dayton during a March 19 police chase that ended in a multiple-vehicle crash.

Benjamin T. McDonald, 36, of Dayton, was indicted today by a Montgomery County grand jury on four counts of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and one count of vehicular assault.

The crash at James H. McGee Boulevard and West Third Street seriously injured McDonald’s passenger, 27-year-old Trinity Earl, who was thrown from the car, police said.

At the time of the incident, McDonald’s driver’s license was under two suspensions, according to the county prosecutor’s office.

McDonald is to be arraigned April 17.

EARLIER (March 28)

A high-speed chase ended in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of James H. McGee Boulevard and West Third Street last week and police have now released dash cam video showing the collision.

Benjamin McDonald, 36, who was arrested following the chase, faces charges of vehicular assault and multiple counts of failure to comply.

One of McDonald’s passengers, Trinity Earl, 27, was critically injured in the March 19 crash. Earl was listed in fair condition Monday at Miami Valley Hospital, according to officials.

McDonald was driving without a valid driver’s license, a crash report showed.
