Steven Schoening, 47, was the only occupant in a car involved in the crash on westbound I-70 in Butler Twp. around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Schoening was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, state troopers said in a media release Thursday morning.

A preliminary investigation found Schoening was traveling west on I-70 and was exiting onto Airport Access Road when he drove off the left side of the highway and hit a drainage culvert, which caused his car to overturn, state troopers said.

Excessive speed appears to be a factor in the crash but other potential contributing factors are still under investigation, investigators said.

Additional details were not released.
