Woman, children injured in Dayton residential fire

DAYTON — A fire in a Dayton duplex resulted in three people, including two children, being transported to area hospitals.

Regional dispatch said the fire on the 2500 block of Saint Charles Avenue was reported at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Sunday.

Matt McClain, Dayton Fire Department District Chief, told News Center 7 that the adult female victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, while young girls were taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital. McClain said their conditions ranged from stable and serious condition.

McClain said crews discovered the adult occupant of the impacted unit on the roof of the residence when they arrived on scene. Crews assisted in getting her off the roof.

Fire damage was reported in the front room of the unit. McClain said there was smoke damage throughout the unit.

The unit was part of a multi-family duplex on the 2500 block of Saint Charles Avenue. The occupants of the other unit were not injured.

McClain said a preliminary investigation revealed the fire was started by “carelessly discarded smoking materials.”
