No injuries after driver falls asleep, tips over semi on I-70

SPRINGFIELD TWP. — UPDATE @ 7:39 a.m.:

A truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the semi to drive off the highway and tip over down an embankment, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on scene.

The truck was packed with laundry detergent, troopers said, but it hadn’t spilled when the truck tipped over, and the driver was unhurt.

Cleaning up the crash is likely to take some time, with the troopers calling it an “all-day cleanup.”

INITIAL REPORT

Emergency crews are responding to a report of a semi truck on its side on eastbound I-70 at the 54 mile marker, near state Route 72.

Ohio State Highway Patrol has reported that there were no injuries in the crash, and our crew on scene has reported that emergency vehicles are blocking the far right lane.

Initial reports indicated that the truck was filled with laundry detergent.
