Smoke visible for miles caused by tire fire at Clark County trucking company

MAD RIVER TWP., Clark County — UPDATE @ 11:40 a.m.: 

A large amount of old semitrailer tires, some up to 40-year-old, caught fire at Howard Trucking on Haddix Road in Mad River Twp. and send a large plume of smoke into the air that was visible for several miles.

Firefighters from several jurisdictions responded and continue to work to extinguish the blaze.

UPDATE @ 10:45 a.m.: 

A tire fire at a Clark County trucking company continues to send thick black smoke into the air that can be seen for miles.

Today’s fire happens during an Air Pollution Advisory that’s in effect for parts of the region, including Clark, Greene, Miami, and Montgomery counties. We are working to find out from officials if the fire today will have any additional impacts to this Air Pollution Advisory already in effect through tonight.

A representative from the Clark County Combined Health District is on the scene but was unable to give a comment to our crew.

Firefighters continue to work to extinguish the fire at Howard Trucking on Haddix Road, just north of state route 235 and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

FIRST REPORT

Heavy black smoke can be seen for miles from a fire at a Mad River Twp. trucking company.

The fire was reported at Howard Trucking on Haddix Road in Mad River Twp. north of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Friday morning around 9:45 a.m.

Tires are the source of the fire and have sent heavy black smoke into the air that is visible as far south as downtown Dayton.

No injuries have been initially reported.
