Investigation underway after fire breaks out at Dayton business

DAYTON — An investigation is underway after a fire broke out at a Dayton business early Saturday morning.

Crews were called to extinguish the fire on the 200 block of Lorenz Avenue just before 4:00 a.m. at Smith’s Carry-Out.

The Dayton Fire Department confirmed investigators consider the fire to have been deliberately started and an additional investigation is currently underway.

One firefighter received minor injuries while responding to the fire and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, according to the fire department.

Friday afternoon the building is boarded up, with debris still leftover from the fire.

News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis spoke with neighbors in the area in the hopes of understanding why someone would deliberately set fire to the business.

One neighbor, who declined to be on camera, said he saw someone run from the area just before the fire.
