West Carrollton house fire, which sends 1 to hospital, is under investigation

UPDATE @ 11:14 p.m.: The house fire in the 300 block of Hillhaven Drive -- not Orchard Hill Drive as initially dispatched -- appears to have started in the front bedroom and has left the residence uninhabitable, West Carrollton Fire Chief Chris Barnett said.

The department’s fire investigator will have to confirm where the fire started, the chief said.

The victim taken to Miami Valley Hospital, identified as a middle-aged woman, was found outside the home when fire crews arrived, Barnett said. Her condition was not known.

There was a second occupant in the building, he said, but there was no information about that occupant.

A code enforcement official was called to the scene because of the extensive damage done by the smoke and flames. Code enforcement usually condemns buildings severely damaged by fire. DP&L Vectren, by request of the fire department, shut off all utilities until repairs are made, Barnett said.

Crews from the Miami Valley Fire District and Moraine were on scene to assist West Carrollton crews because of the heat and humidity, he said.

The initial dispatch directed fire crews to an address in the 300 block of Orchard Hill Drive, which backs up to the property in the 300 block of Hillhaven Drive.

UPDATE @ 10:29 p.m.:

DP&L and Vectren also have been called to the address to cut services to the one-story single-family residence.
