Chief: Woman with CCW permit accidentally shoots her leg in Franklin

FRANKLIN — UPDATE @ 10:15 p.m.

Before medics arrived, officers from the Franklin Division of Police applied a tourniquet to a woman’s leg after she accidentally shot herself while cleaning her gun.

The woman had a CCW permit, and was cleaning her weapon while inside a vehicle, according to a release from Chief Russ Whitman.

The shooting was reported shortly before 5 p.m. in the 60 block of Hemlock Street.

“Initial investigation revealed that the gunshot was a self-inflicted negligent discharge,” the release stated.

The victim’s name will not be released, and no charges are expected to be filed.

The woman’s condition was unknown.

FIRST REPORT

Police and medics were called this evening to a report of a shooting.

The shooting was reported around 4:50 p.m. in the 60 block of Hemlock Street.

It was reported as accidental, the Franklin Division of Police said.

According to initial reports, a woman was shot in the leg.
