Cows unaccounted for in Fort Loramie barn fire

UPDATE @ 9:27 a.m. (Sept. 8):

As many as 10-20 cows are still unaccounted for after a barn near Fort Loramie burst into flames Sunday night.

Fort Loramie Fire Chief Brad Schulze said its unclear if any of the cows are deceased, however no remains have been discovered at the fire scene.

The fire began after a skid loader caught fire inside the barn, engulfing the rest of the 132-year-old structure, Schulze said.

The barn house hay, farm equipment and approximately 70 cows.

Firefighters estimated the damage to the contents of the barn at $200,000 to $250,000.

A passerby noticed the fire and attempted to put out the fire, while his wife called 911.

INITIAL REPORT (Sept. 6):

Several fire departments are at the scene of a large barn fire near Fort Loramie, according to dispatchers.

Crews were dispatched around 7 p.m. on a report of a structure fire in the 5000 block of Ohio 705.

Dispatchers said they expect fire crews to be at the scene of the fully engulfed fire for some time.
