911 caller describes fatal pedestrian crash scene

HARRISON TWP. — UPDATE @ 12:27 p.m.:

A 39-year-old Dayton man died Thursday morning after being struck by at least one vehicle on North Main Street, investigators said.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Anthony DiMauro.

Deputies responded to calls at North Main and Wampler Avenue in Harrison Twp. around 2:30 a.m.

A 911 caller told dispatchers, “Oh, it’s a person laying in the street and the cars are just running over and over and over and over top this person”.

Deputies said they don’t know who struck the victim first.

Investigators also are trying to figure out if DiMauro was in a crosswalk.

A man who identified himself only as “Blue” said he’s tired of all the crashes, saying that nearby residents call North Main Street “accident alley”

He said, “I’ve been living up here eight years and (I’ve) seen nine different accidents.”

Dayton Police and Montgomery County deputies are working cooperatively to try to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety on North Main Street, including utilizing speed monitoring trailers and putting up flashing pedestrian crossing signs.

UPDATE @8:35 a.m.

The victim from the fatal pedestrian crash has been identified as Anthony Dimauro, 39, of Dayton, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

His autopsy is scheduled for today.

FIRST REPORT

A man died after he was hit by multiple vehicles on North Main Street near Wampler Avenue early Thursday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:30 a.m. The male victim was pronounced dead on the scene and was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. His identity has not been released.
