Coronavirus: Employee at Marion Correctional Institution tests positive

MARION — A staff member at the Marion Correctional Institution has tested positive for COVID-19, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction said in a release.

There will be no staff or inmate transfers in or out of the facility at this time to combat the spread of the virus.

A contact tracing investigation is underway.

The employee last worked in the facility on March 24 and reported feeling symptomatic the following day.

They reported their positive test to the facility March 29 immediately after having received the results, the release stated.

“We have worked for several weeks implementing changes within our operations to address the challenges presented by COVID-19,” said DRC Director Annette Chambers-Smith in a written statement.

“Each facility has unique plans in place that address this specific situation. Our staff member is at home recovering and we will continue to work tirelessly to keep our staff and incarcerated individuals safe and healthy.”
